It seems as though the Midwest Emo community might be having an intense comeback. With Joyce Manor’s new album recently released, local bands making it a common genre (like Columbia’s own ‘Find Fiona’), and even rumors of bands like Modern Baseball getting back together.
But the band who some would say started it all, American Football is finally set to release their fourth EP, on May 1st, 2026.
The story of American Football – in short
American Football actually started in the 1990s, but they were cut short after their first EP and album (both self-titled) each flopped. They broke up in the year 2000. Almost fifteen years later in 2014 the band blew up in fame, for the same album that flopped many years ago. That same year, they would go on tour and sell out the venues they had booked. After more than 17 years, they would release their sophomore album, “American Football”. Three years later, they created their third album “American Football”. But that was in 2019, and fans have been patiently awaiting a fourth album. On February 18th, In a small superfans group hosted by the band, about 4,000 fans of the band were let know that a fourth album, “American Football”, would be releasing on May 1st, 2026.
American Football’s long-awaited fourth LP, is expected to drop in less than three months. It is hopeful that it holds up with their other three albums. There will be a review of the album quickly after its release, here on The Musical Tiger.
